TUAKAU.
The first shibment this season of live pigs was consigned to Wellington last week, the consignment being a very good one. Mr J. Adamson, an old settler of this neighbourhood, was taken to the hospital on Monday owing to infirmities of old age. A well-attended meeting of the Progressive League was held on Monday last when general business was dealt with. The League, inspired by past successes, is reaching out for further improvements in the management of the ton jship's affairs and definite arrangements are boing made for several changes. Mr M. Foley has been appointed permanent chairman in lieu of Mr 0. Bharman, who has left the district.
Finger-posts bearing the names of each street have been placed in position.
Work has been started on the new road between Tuakau and Whangarata and workmen may be seen preparing the way where the road leaves Liverpool street. Mr Crawley is busy erecting the first bridge between the properties of Messrs A. H. Tapper and D. Fulton, and altogether it appears that the work is being pushed on with vigour by the Road Board. Mr R. B. Lutman held a clearance sale recenly, but weather conditions weve not favourable. Good prices, however, were realised.
