Raglan Rugby Union.

To THE EdITOK. Sir,—-Might I trespass on your valuable space for a few lines of interest and suggestion in connection with the Raglan Rugby Union. I refer to the selection of the representative players. I am credibly informed that the various clubs playing under the jurisdiction of the above Union have been asked to appoint a selector whose duty will be to submit the names of four forwards and four backs to the governing body for approval. This should result in 32 players being chosen by their respective selectors (Pukekawa having withdrawn) and the Union to finally select the representative team after "(presumably) a "probables" v. "possibles" match. Now, anyone who knows anything about the good old Rugby game certainly does not entertain the idea of selectors. Go back as far as you like and history will repeat itself. More dissatisfaction has arisen over a body of selectors than anything that has ever cropped up in the game, and I earnestly beg of your executive to appoint a soloselector, and a non-player at that. We have a number of good men fully qualified for this delicate task, but if the sole-selector is appointed there will be less friction and the usual band of "naggers" silenced. As an explayer of the code, and an active participant in various Rugby governing bodies over a period of twenty years, I am not throwing th« suggestion forth as a " mushroom " agitator, but for the good of the game, which at the present stage is up against keen opposition from our Northern Union players In conclusion, might I remark on the good spirit that has prevailed in this, our first season under the Raglan Union, and I trust will long continue My congratulations to the winners (United) though I think the honors of the season should go to our native friends at Kohonga. In connection with the appointment of selector, I have in my mind's eye the very person who would fill the bill were ho able to see his way to accept. I refer to Mr H. D. Dansey (the engineer of the railway works). An ox-represen-tative man for many years with a football record unsullied, and in his day Mr Dansey had no superior either for grit or brains at Rugby. He is also one of our ablest referees. —I am, etc , IsHMAEI..
