PUKEKOHE EAST.
The monthly meeting of the Pukekohe East Road Bourd was held at Buckland on the 13th itist, all the numbers being present. The Chairman, Mr £. Allan, presided. Mrs Thompson again wrote regarding the accident to her daughter, requesting payment of her melical expenses. Sincere sympathy was expressed with the writer, but the Board decided to adhere to its decision and to decline all liability. Mr Dynes Fulton was appointed to confer with the lady and explain to her the position of the Board The chairmau congratulated Messrs Fulton and Wilcox on their election as councillors in the new Franklin county, and theso gentlemen suitably responded. A discussion arose re striking a rate. The chairman said he was opposed to dual rates, and considered the best thing to do was to allow the council to collect. Mr Wilcox fayore I striking a Jd rate aud ihe council id. Other members having spokou, it was decided to defer consideration for a month. Mr Bunting waited on tlio Board and presented a largely-signed petition asking the Board to open a road through the propotty of Messrs Rooso, Whyte, and others, to connect Tuamata with Pukekohe. The chairman enquired if all the parties concerned were willing to dedicate the land and form the road. Mr Bunting roplied that porno were, and others wore not. Mr Allan then said the proper procedure would bo for the promoters to get all interested to coneont to give the land, and then come to the Board. Mr Ingram said thoy had more roads now than thoy could keep, and instead of spending anything on new roads, they should buy metal to make the roads thty had. Ultimately the matter was deferred pending further information. Messrs Fulton ami Hartly submitted plan and specification for now bridge, prepared by Mr John Koutly: these were approved, the cost not to exceed £2OO. Mr J. Drumgool waited on the Board re his contract at Tuakau, which he considered should be passed, as in his opinion the specification had boen complied with. Messrs Fulton, llaitly, and the cluik gave their opinions on the work, and a deputation consisting of Messrs Wilcox and Hartly was appointed to meet the contractor at the job and endeavor to effect a settlement. A letter was read from Messrs Frost and Lapwood objecting to metal being removed from old road at Tuakau beach, aud Mr Fulton reported that the man hn had put on to do the work had been stopped by the objectors. The chairman said theso had a perfect right to complain, but no right whatever to iuterfere with tlio Board's workmen. They should have come to the Board, or to the members for the division. After discussion it was docided to leave tho matter in the hands of Messrs Fulton aud Craig, aud if auy further interference occurred to consult u solicitor. On Mr Wilcox's motion sovoral settlers were served with notices to cut blackberries. On the motion of,Mr Ballard a letter of condolence was sent to MrC Drumgool.
