MAUKU.
Farmers' Uxiox. The monthly meeting of the Farmers' Union was held on Friday evening when Mr J. Flanagan, of Drury, attended and gave the members an interesting ami instructive address on his trip through Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. As Mr Flanagan made special enquiries into farming operations in these countries, his address proved of great value to the members present. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. It was agreed to appoint Messrs W. Sommeiville and C. Crispe to attend the Pukekohe meeting to discuss the question of grading potatoes. It was also unanimously carried, That this branch would support Government by elective Executive. Regarding the scheme for workers' homes in country districts the members were in favor of some such scheme but considered the area (15 to 20 acres) too large for these parts, the land being so good that a competent farm hand could make a good living off that amount and his services would uot be ava :l able to the farmers when required. Messrs C. Vott and Cuirniings were elected members. Considerable alterations and additions are to be effected to the Mauku Hotel. Mr Hedley having been the successful tenderer. The price is, I understand, about £230. Potato planting has already commenced, several growers being at work and all preparations being made to push forward some veiy oarly crops.
