DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
About seventeen persons were present at the annual meeting of householders of ih; Pukekohe District High School, Mr C. K. Lawrie in the chair. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated that at the Board meetings during the year the attendances had been:—Messrs Perkins 13, Lawri9 12, Stevenson 12, Rev. F. Dobson 12, Comrie 7, Patterson 7, Dunn 6, R. Bilkey 1. There had been a great increase of scholars. Average attendance: March 31st, 1911, 151. (176 on the roll); March 31st 1912, 207. (241 on the roll 210.) In addition, 21 scholars attended the secondary department, making a total of 262 in a school built; for 200. After referring tc the great overcrowding, it was stated that if the present average were maintained until Christmas the bchool would be entitled to another male assistant. Feeling reference was made to Miss Carley'a retirement, due to a breakdown in health. Miss Black, 8.A., who was doing good work, was to be replaced by t teacher qualified to teach agricultural science. Mr King (pupil teacher) had been appointed in place of Miss Fairley. The annual report of the Chief Inspector was quite satisfactory. Two rooms for manual trainiog bad been erected at a cost of £695 and a laboratory for £SOO, the latter to be furnished at a cost of £l5O. The construction of swimming baths was urged, pupils to use them free of charge, and civilians to pay for the privilege of using them. A number of matters wer« discussed, which lack of space prevents us reporting, Tributes were paid to the good work done by the Rev. F. Dobson, as Secretary, and to the Committee. The • Committee elected were : Messrs C. K. Lawrie, Rev. F. Dobson, F. Perkins, A. P. Daish, W. A. Pilkington, A. E. Wllkineon and J. Prtterson.
