LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A late rush of country news has compelled us to hold over the leadinir articles on the A. and P. show, the Pukekohe Volunteer Fire-brigade, and The Frnaklin Electorate and the Premiership. Besides this, practically all our correspondence had to V cut down, and reports of „«" - >ial local matters were crcvrued out. Pukekehe Magistrate's Court report will appear in our next issue. % * The Minister for Railways is to visit Pukekohe on Tuesday to meet local representatives concerning the dispute as to the most suitable site for the over-head traffic bridge. The Minister for Railways has written to Mr. H. G. R. Mason, Clerk to the Pukekohe West Road Board, saying that he had decided to erect an overhead bridge for foot-passengers, to give access between the road leading to the goods-shed and the passenger platform at the new site of the Pukekohe railway station Only the required number (five) were nominated as members of the Franklin Licensing Committee. These were declared elected and the new Committee will comprise Messrs J. CA Chalmers, YV. C. Motion, P. McGrovern, W. Richardson and J. Schlaepfer. Mr F. V. Frazer, S.M., will preside as Chairman. The Committee will hold its quarterly meetings at Pukekohe court house.
Pukekohe Eailwav Station advances a point under the regrading scheme and in consequence there has been a revision of the appointments. Mr A. S. Thode, who was stationed here for .five years, has been transferred to Thames and Mr A. F. Brown, of Thames, has been promoted to Pukekohe. Mr Brown is returning to a district that he knows well. He is an old Tuakau boy and was for some years Station-master at Papakura before goiug to Thames Mr. J. Hutchinson, of the relieving staff, has been acting Station-master during the past week. Mr Brown took up his us*,, to-day. The Pukekohe Volunteer Fire Brigade to hold a grand concert and dance on Friday evening next Morrww's string band from Auckland will play the dance music, so that a good time is assured for those who trip the light fantastic. A tine concert programme has been arranged of Auckland and local taleut. The object is to raise funds for the Brigade to recoup the Town Board for the money obligations it undertook. We hope that everybody will help all they can the Brigadesmen who have volunteered their services in the saving of property and may bo life when fires occur.
