Cycle Track The question of constructing a permanent banked cycle track round the perimeter of the sports area of the park, raised at the March meeting, was further discussed and, on the suggestion of Mr Freeman, a sub-committee ot Messrs J. Martin, C. Robinson and the parks supervisor, Mr J. H. Morris, was appointed to go further into the matter with ttfe Putaruru Axemen’s Club. Football Ground In response to a written application, permission was granted to Putaruru Athletic and Pinedale football clubs to make Glenshea Park their home ground for the season. ’ Watching Brief A letter' from Putaruru Athletic Football Club requesting representation on the committee was read by the secretary. It was pointed out by the chairman that the constitution of the committee did not permit addition to its membership and, after some discussion, it was agreed that the club be requested to appoint a member from the present committee to hold a watching brief on behalf of the local football clubs, and that the name of the selected member be notified to the Pinedale Football Club. Three Months’ Work Undone In presenting his report the parks supervisor said, in his opinion, three months’ work on the surface of the park had been undone by the recent holding of a circus there. He recommended that the rhyolite area in the park should receive a rough grass surface and such events in the future should be held there. It was decided to leave the matter for discussion between the supervisor and farmer members of the committee? Topdressing At the suggestion of Mr Morris the committee authorised the procuring of two or three loads of suit- liable soil for topdressing the park. Development of Terraces Proposals for the development of the terraces and the removal of tree stumps were raised by Mr J. Martin on behalf of Mr Duxfield, and it was agreed to ask Mr Burke, council foreman, to experiment on one or two of the stumps with explosives to shatter them for later removal. New Mowers The secretary reported the arrival of the two new mowers, but it was decided to defer disposal of the old machines for the time being.
Trespassers Asked whether permission had been granted for the grazing of cattle .on the park, Mr J. Martin said he had seen 18 to 20 cows there most nights recently, and once a. horse. The chairman said no such permission had been granted, and it was stated by Mr Martin that the presence of the cattle was probably ./ due to a gate having been left open. Canteen An application from the ladies* social committee of the Athletic Football Club for permission to operate the canteen throughout the season was granted.
