The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has announced that as a result of a further adjustment in the fat lamb schedule the prices ruling from and including March 7, 1949, for both North and South Islands, was 13 l-8d per pound.
The Ngarua junior debating team was successful in the final round of the Matamata Young Farmers’ Clubs’ debating contest when it defeated the Tirau-Okoroire team. Subject of the debate was: “That Science is a Menace to Mankind.” Ngarua, which was represented by K. McCulloch (leader), B. Ingram and N. Ingram, took the negative.
Traffic Inspector B. McD. Boyle, of Matamata, has been offered a transfer to the Gisborne district, which is a much larger area. Mr. Boyle intends visiting Gisborne shortly to see if he can obtain a house, on which success may depend the transfer. During his stay in Matamata Inspector Boyle has made many friends on account of his fine bearing, courteous approach and constructive method of handling traffic problems. He has also gained high praise from the two local bodies covering the major portion of his district.
