MEDAL OF MERIT

AWARDED TO SCOUT LEADER It was announced recently by the Dominion headquarters of the Boy Scouts Association that His Excellency the Governor-General, acting in his capacity as Dominion Chief Scout, had awarded the Scout Association’s Medal of Merit to K6nald Alexander Watson, of Arapuni, in recognition of his good services to the scout movement. Mr. Watson commenced scout work in 1925 with the St. Heliers BayTroop and very- quickly earned his eubmaster warrant. He was the first to run the district cub sport and picnic day in Auckland in 1929 and was also at that time acting district eubmaster for the No. 4 District in Auckland. In 1931 Mr. Watson went to Matamata and once again took part in scouting activities as district cub master for the No. 7 District (Hamilton). As district eubmaster he visited surrounding towns and organised packs at Waotu, Te Aroha, Morrinsville and Rotorua.

He i s well known among scouting enthusiasts for his work at all the scout rallies in Thames Valley, and by the scouts and cubs who have attended the district camp at Tauranga. where Mr. Watson for the last 16 years has acted in the capacity of quartermaster and caterer. Mr. Watson is at present group scoutmaster at Arapuni and ha s done much towards furthering the scout movement in the Arapuni districts.
