WAIKATO DIOCESE

COMING-OF-AGE APPEAL £20,000

A resolution was passed at the Waikato Anglican Synod with regard to the administration of the £20,000 which is being raised to mark the 21st anniversary of the diocese. Two accounts are being opened. One of these will be a home mission building loan trust, and the other a grants and subsidies account. Two-thirds of the money will be made available to Parishes on loan at a nominal rate of interest for building and repair projects. All interest derived from this source will be paid into the second account, into which the balance nf the £20,000 will have already been paid. From this fund free grants will be made to parishes either as aids to clergy or as gifts towards any project approved by the Standing Committee of the DioceseThe fund is progressing very favourably, and parish organisations throughout the diocese are steadily working towards their local objectives. As an instance of the originality of some of the clergy the method adopted by the vicar of Waihi is interesting.. He sat at his church gate from morning till night on a day apIHunted, and received the sum of £lB6 from passers-by.
