SCHOOL NEWS

On Saturday the High School second fifteen played the Mangakino fourth grade team at Karl’s Paddock, Although High School won 14—0 there was no trophy at stake and the game was played in the best of spirits. For High School the captain, B. .Humphries, . was very sound at first five-eighths, and the halfback, GHowell, served well from the lineouts and scrums. G. Crickett was very good in the fullback position, fielding and kicking well. Forwards who were prominent were Morcom, Vette and Schischka.

Alangakino's fullback, S. Allan, was the best back on the field and outstanding in his section of play. The forwards were not individualists but hunted solidly as a pack. Tries for School were scored by D. Freeman, A. Vette and J. Schischka. B. Humphries converted one try and kicked a penalty goal. The intermediate fifteen also turned out on Saturday, against Mangakino B, winning by IS—O. This also being a friendly game it wa B enjoyed by all and played in the best of spirits. Several. basketball games were played on Saturday, the School C and Intermediate A teams travelling to Tokoroa. The girls sincerely thanked Mr. Bean for driving the bus for them when he could have attended the football. Results were:— School A S, School B 0. School A 7, Putaruru, Gold 10. School C 0. Tookroa B 12. - Intermediate All,- Tokoroa Gold 12. B 6, Putaruru Blue 4. Intermediate B 2, Mangakino 6. On Wednesday 17th July three basketball teams and the first fifteen pill visit Cambridge District High School to play a serie s of games. During the last week examinations have been in progress thtrougbout the fChool, so pupils have been busy earning and the teachers marking >apers.
