SCHOOL NEWS

With the coming of the cold weather the pupils in the new building have found the central heating system a greater asset than the ordinary coke stoves. On Saturday the school basketball teams turned out in wet weather again to play their competition matches at the school courts. Results of games in which the school teams participated were: School A 5, Putaruru Red 2; School B 0, Tokoroa A 14; School C 2, Tokoroa 3jr Intermediate A 3, Tokoroa 12; Intermediate B 1, Putaruru Blue 2. On Saturday, June 21, Ngaire Murray, Joan Ensoll, Ida Maxwell and Eileen Savage will travel vto Hamilton with the Putaruru basketball representatives. Last Saturday the school first fifteen did not play, as the only third 1 ' grade match was the representativetrials. The school players picked to play in this game were J. Howland, D. Tomalin, W. Tomalin, BWellf£vre, S. Ngatai, B. Wiringi, H. Te Tomo, D. Domett and R. Bergquist. As last week was United Nations week, on Friday the secondary staff each gave an interesting talk on international art, science, languages and the r.aces of mankind. Miss Thcmpkinson, senior assistant mistress in the primary department, has now commenced teaching in the school. Miss 'Grant is relieving in thesecondary department, where there is still a shortage of teachers on the staff, which should consist of six permanent members. Last week the physical education specialists, Miss Thomson and Mr. Shields, visited the school and assisted with the physical education activities. 1 < , , .*«!
