STATE OF BUCKLAND ROAD
PETITION FROM SETTLERS A petition to the Mataimata County Council from Mr. J. E. A. McNally and 3-1 others asked that Buckland- Road> be attended to in view of its “unsatisfactory and dangerous condition.” -Or. R. H. Brinkwo-rth stated that the road was of the type mentioned by Mr. Fitzgerald to the deputation which wanted the Peria subdivision. I-t originally was a track which had been widened to road width and now scttblers desired the cdme-Ts to- be taken off, a work which in his opinion- should be done. Thera was a large amount of traffic on the road and seme figures were 1-1,500 lambs carted annually and- 1000 cows milked. Manure carted totalled 862 tons, and also 335 bales of wool. He hadinfonmed the settlers- that there was no hope of a bituminised surface for some years. The subject was dropped until next meeting to enable the engineer to submit estimates of the cost of straightening the corners.
