OLD BOYS v. TIRAU

Playing at Okoroire in extremely hot weather Old Boys went down to Tirau on the first innings. Tirau batted first and made the good score of 134, of which Middleton (67) was the outstanding batsman: Thompson (38) also batted very well. Bowling for Old Boys, Fitzherbert was the most successful, and his figures of 8 for 38 included the “hat trick.” Old Boys failed in their batting and could only muster 60 runs, of which 'Godsalve (22) and Verran (18) were the principal scorers. CHAMPIONSHIP CONCLUDED

The final games in the championship were played during the weekend- and resulted in outright wins for Tirau, Tokoroa and Old Boys. Thus Tirau, who were two points ahead of Tokoroa and three ahead of Old Boys before the - commencement of 'this series, succeeded in maintaining their lead-, and carrying off the championship in their first year in the Putaruru Association. Tirau, who did not start the season off very conspicuously, improved considerably as the season progressed and thoroughly deserved their success.

OLD BOYS v. PINEDALE Playing at Ar-apuni on Sunday Oid Boys gained an easy victory ever Pine dale by an innings and 41 runs. Pinedale batted first and were dismissed for 76, of which Badham (22 not out) and- McAlister (21) were the principle scorers. Fitzherbert, G for 36, was Old Boys’ most successful bowler. Old Boys in reply made 206 for four wickets, declared, Fitzherbert (108) being the principle scorer, and included in his score were 11 fours and one six. Moran (34 not out) batted well and Godsalve (25) and Stephenson (15) gave the bowlers no respite.
