PUTARURU SUB UNION Pinedale v. Huia The weather was threatening at Tokoroa when Pinedale met Huia during the week-end, in the final round of the competition. The earlier game between Atiamuri and Ma-.aetai did not eventuate because Atiamuri defaulted. Thus the crowd was becoming restive when Pinedale and Huia took the .field. Awav went the game at a great pace. Huia held the tough Pinedale bovs well inside -their half and from penalty kicks fog infringements by Pinedale the game was so placed that Peter Gardener had no difficulty in putting two over before half-time, giving Huia a lead at the interval of six points to Pinedale’s three, a try scored by Pickerang. After half-time the game was very interesting as the ball was being thrown about freely by both team.fj. However, Pinedale’s condition, soon began to fell and they had little difficulty in piling up a dozen mure points, Borrell scoring two tres and Pickerang and Yates one each, making the final score 15—6 in Pinedale’s favour.

The handling of the Pinedale backs was probably the best seen at Tokoroa this treason. Their backs were all fast, rugged men, and though Huia tackled gamely, the Pinedale hack combination was not to be denied. Johnny Edmunds at halfback played a sound game for Pinedale. He was well covered' by Huia breakaway Waddell, who played an outstanding game. Barney at fullback was obviously out of his place, but went dowp gamely when hard pressed. The opposition did not space him. Yates clapped a toe-hold on him once when on the blind side of the. referee. But taken through and through, a good spirit prevailed and the football of both teams shows a marked improvement in every respect. The game was well handled by Mr, A. Hurst.

JUNIOR GRADE Tokoroa v. Maraetai Tokoroa defeated Maraetai in a good, clean game played in the very best of spirits, during the week-end. Maraetai floored one try when their half went through a loose scrum to score a good try. For Tokoroa, Reece Williams, a fourth grade boy playing for the juniors, scored two tries, and Glen Oarruthers one. Maraetai were two men short and lost a man, injured, during the second half. Tokoroa had 14 men, two fourth grade boys, Swindlehurst and Williams, playing in the backo, where they both filled their positiins creditably. .The Tokoroa juniors have many good individual players, but for some reason they fail to co-ordin-ate as well as might be expected. This has always been their weak point. Maraetai juniors played well and the game was anybody’s right up to the laot. Mr. S. May, referee, handled the game well. WEEK-END RESULTS The results of games played over the week-end were as follower— Seniors Maraetai won by default from Atiamuri. Pinedale 18, Huia 6. United 15, Arapuni 0. Juniors Athletic won by default from Arapuni. Tokoroa 9, Maraetai 3. Fourth Grade * School B, 14, Hodderville 0. Tokoroa won by default from School A-
