TOKOROA TOWNSHIP

.REGIONAL PLAN DESIRED County Council Makes Request A further effort to finalise the position regarding a regional plan at Tokoroa who made by Cr. G. C. Dunham at the May meeting of the Matamata County Council and was productive of the approval of a request being made that a plan be prepared. The engineer advised that Mr. Cox, of the department, had visited the district.

-Or. Dunham reported that Mr Cox bad been impressed with the need for planning at Tokoroa. He had pointed out that ribbon building such as that at Huntly. where the town was four miles long and one bouse deep, wag bad. The speaker said: that he had told Mr. Cox that settlers desired' to know where the Tokoroa Hall should be erected. There was also the post office and railway, and a doctor’s residence. He suggested the council approve of a. resolution which he read.

Cr. E. D. White • (chairman) wondered, while he laid the resolution was an excellent one, whether it would meet the immediate needs of selecting a site for the doctor’s residence and the post, office. The engineer thought that the expert eouldi meet the petition so that it would not delay matters while the survey was being made. iOn the motion of Cr. Dunham and Duxfield the resolution was approved, as follows: “That the Town Planning Council be requested to carry- out a preliminary regional survey of the area of which Tokoroa form® a part, with special reference to the future development of the township of Tokoroa, and that the technical staff of the Town- Planning Council prepare so much of a town plan as will assist this local authority in coping with such pressing matter,.' as the siting of a civic centre and the erection or extension of business premises.’’ Cr. J. E. Davidson suggested- that the covering letter from the council should state that -Cr. Dunham and the engineer could oupply necessary data which would assist those making the survey. This suggestion was approved.
