PING PONG CLUB To complete the year’s activities the*secondary Ping Pong Club held a parents’ evening which proved very successful and made a fitting conclusion to the season. The earlier part of the. evening was spent in doubles matches amt then followed the family matches, the results being as follows: Mr. McRae v. Stuart, lost 21—16; Mr. McAlister v. Margaret, lost 21—16; Mr. Tongs v. Daphne, lost 21—18; Mrs Haworth v. Don, won 21—20; Mr. Poole v. Margaret, won 21—17; Mrs Ericson v. Olwyn, lost 21—18; Mrs MieCaw v. Joan, lost 21—20; Mr. Radd v. Shirley, lost 21—11; Mr. Spencer v. Lois, won 22'—20; Mr. Americh v. Roy, won 21—14. In the family championship the Arnerieh family defeated the Poole family 21—19 in the final. During a bountiful supper pro-' vided by the secondary pupils' Louie Lopdell made a presentation to Miss Parkinson and Stuart Mcßae to Mr. Shanks, both of whom had helped with the club’s activities. Spor.ts Activities The High School A and B teams played very much improved' games in the recent basketball tournament to gain second and l third places. Regular Saturday matches have led to increased interest and next season the High School should be represented by more teams. In the recent seven-a-side tournament the High School boys were defeated in their first match by Tokoro.a, who took part in the final. The score was nine points to three. On Tuesday the senior secondary boys were defeated in a basketball match by' the senior secondary girls, the score being seven goals to five.

In the return match with the primary the Form 111. boys were defeated by 14 points to nil. The pupils of the Lichfield 1 school played' football and basketball matches against Putaruru last Thursday afternoon. In the first football match the score was 3-all, and in the seven-a-side Lichfield juniors were defeated by three points to nil, while the seniors defeated Putaruru by six points to nil. In the basketball, Lichfield were assisted by some Butaruru girls, the results of the various games being that Lichfield defeated Putaruru by five goals to nil in the first match and by three goals to two in the second match. In a match between the Putaruru A and B teams the A team won by nine goals to one. The primary A and B teams are taking part in a schools’ basketball tournament at Matamata on Saturday next.
