PUTARURU ROSE SHOW
SUCCESSFUL function The rose show held in the Town Hall on Tuesday of. last week by the Putaruru Methodist Church was undoubtedly a grand success. There Was a very goed show.ng of roses—much better than was expected. The number of entries in the cut flowers’ section was very large, and some beautiful blooms were on exhibition. Exhibits worth special mention were the delphiniums exhibited by Mrs. O. Burt, Mrs. R. McQuilkan and Mrs. F. Colson. These blooms were really outstanding and caused much comment. The judges were Mesdames J. Corbett and F. M, Harris, of Rotorua. The Solomon Island Mission Fund will benefit from the proceeds of the day. Stalls were also held at the show, cooking, produce, sweets, needlework and mary other articles being sold. Light luncheon and afternoon tea were served by the many willing helpers. The secretary, Mrs. A. T. Pearce, stated that the thanks of the Rose Show Committee were due to these helpers and to the many others who helped make the show a success. The show closed at 5 pm. in order to prepare for the concert which was held that night. The results were as follows: Roses Six Distinct Varieties: Mr F. Colson 1, Mr Edwards 2. Colson 2, Mrs Hogarth 3. White or Cream: Mrs L. Newell 1, Mj- W. Van Veen .2, Mrs Baldwin 3. Dwarf Polyanthus: Mrs Mueker 1. Novice: Six Distinct Varieties. Mrs L. Newell 1. The points prize was wo* by Mrs L. Newell and the certificate for the champion bloom by Mr Colson. Cut Flowers Sweet Peas (s'x distinct varieties) : Mrs W. Van Veen 1. Sweet Peas (three distinct varieties): Mrs E. Jones 1, Mrs W. Van Veen 2 and 3. Sweet Peas (three varieties, six stalks of each): Mrs W. Van Veen 1 and 3, Mrs Hogarth 2.
