MATAMATA FARMERS’ UNION
JUNE MEETING Value Of Serpentine Super The June meeting of the Matamata Farmers’ Union was held recently. Women On Farms Mr. S. Smith mentioned the matter of the need for extra provision for boots and clothing for women working -on farms. He held that these should not come out of the coupons issued. Mr. H. Sutherland approved the idea and suggested that it be sent on to the Auckland executive. Mr. H. Rollett: It is provision for their working-clothes that is wanted. It is extra coupons that are wanted. Mr. F. C. Bush seconded the motion (moved by Mr. Smith), which was carried unanimously. Serpentine Super Discussing a remit from the Auckland conference, the president said that it was held that farmers were condemning serpentine super without a fair trial, and the speaker agreed. Farmers used to putting on about 4cwt of superphosphate were now putting on llcwt of serpentine and expecting the same results. It was stated that the serpentine super released more plant food than the same quantity of straight super did. Some delegates desired that they receive their quotas of straight super, as they had plenty of lime at their back doors. The speaker had voted for the remit, though he was not prepared to condemn the serpentine.
