ANNUAL MEETING Very Sound Financial Position There was a remarkably good attendance at the annual meeting of the Matamata Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club which was held on Thursday evening Mr. H- Leiwis presided over an attendance of 41. An apology was received from Mr. S. Hall. The financial statement showed that the income for the year had amounted to £383 and that the credit balance was over £6O after payment of £65 to the patriotic fund. The assets totalled £lO5. There were no liabilities. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr. J. Clothier; president, Mr. H. Lewis; vice-presidents, Messis E Baker, B. Ledington, S. L. Fannin, W- J. Scott, G. G. Griffiths, J. W Portland and J- Donovan; auditor, Mr G. G. Griffiths; executive, Messrs- J. P. Shelley, D. Potter, A D. Molesworth, L. V. Hunt and E. V- Potter; club captains, Mr- L. V. Hunt (cycling), Mr. R. Scott (vice-captain), Mr. D- Potter (athletics), Miss Scott (ladies); delegates to Auckland Centre, president and secretary; delegates to Waikato, president and secretary and Mr. E. Baker; handicapper, Mr. H. Skidmore; assistant, Mr. JH Leiwis; timekeepers, Messrs. S. L. Fannin and J. W. Portland; ladies’ committee, Misses Scott, Beagrie, F Cooke, Mesdames Ledington, Scott, Potter and Beagrie; machine inspector, Mr- E. Baker. Mr. H- Skidmore resigned from the position of secretary and the vacancy was left to the executive to fill. New Members The following new members were elected: Messrs. J. P- Shelley, R. J Shelley, C. H. Shelley, E. and RVeale, G. Hemming, D. and KEvans, Miss E. Beagrie, Mrs. Ledington, Messrs. E. Tishury, N- Dalbeth, W- Dix, J. Martin and A. D. Molesworth. The great work'done by Mr. Skidmore in founding the club and acting as organising secretary since its inception was mentioned by Mr. G. G- Griffiths, who suggested that a life membership be conferred in recognition of these great services. There were few cycles and no racing cycles in the town when the club had been startedMr. H. Leiwis endorsed these comments and stated that Mr Skidmore had put the club on its feet and made it what it was to-day —one of the outstanding clubs in the Auckland Province. The motion was carried with, acclamation and Mr. Skidmore suitably I replied.
