BOWLER AND BANDSMAN Driver Ronald Gillies Word was received by his mother, Mrs- T. Gillies, of Claudelands, yesterday, that her son, Driver Ronald H. Gillies, had been killed in actionDriver Gillies, who was 36 years of age, enlisted from Putaruru where he had been employed by Mr. J. Gawith as a plumber. He was a very keen bowler and won the Putaruru club’s singles approximately four years ago. Driver Gillies was also one of the leading players in the Putaruru BandIn both institutions he was considered, in the words of one who played with him,, “a real good fellow.”
