PUTARURU SUCCESSES
AT MATAMATA SHOW A large measure of success came the way of several Putaruru’ riders who competed in the light horse section at the Matamata Show which was held last Saturday. In view of the fact that the quality and numbers of the hacks at the show were outstanding and provoked much favourable comment on the day, local representatives performed most creditably. Miss Carlie Scott secured second place in the champion hunter event to J. Wilson, with H. E. Porritt third, and other well-known Waikato hunters among the “ also rans.” R. E. Buckland was placed first and Miss Scott third in the best walking hack. R. E. Buckland’s entries also gained first place in the maiden hunter, third in the lady’s hunter (with Mrs. Buckland riding), third in the gentleman rider event, and first with Mrs. Ranstead in both the dual jump and the best lady and gentleman (pairs) riders. Miss Scott also secured first and second place in the consolation hunter event.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE EXHIBIT
Much complimentary comment was heard on the quality of the Putaruru 'Women’s Institute exhibit in the Institute Court section of the show. Although in the face of keen competition from long established institutes, the Putaruru display did not secure a place, judges considered it a most commendable one. It could, however, "according to the judge, Mrs. T.
