TESTED PEDIGREE COWS.
GREAT TIRAU AVERAGE.
Mr. J. W. Anderson’s Herd.
A wonderful record was put up by Mr. J. W. Anderson’s herd of registered pedigree Shorthorn cows last season at Tirau under official herdtesting conditions. Mr. Anderson’s herd of 15 pedigree cows returned the wonderful average of 402.401 b of butterfat over 316 days. The herd is all of Mr. Anderson’s own breeding, and all of them but two are by bulls of his own breeding. They were handled under ordinary farm conditions, and received no forcing, being fed on pastures alone with the addition of some hay in August. One of the herd, Parakau Jean, a heifer, met with an injury to her hip just before calving, and returned 2131 b of butterfat in 260 days. This animal is not included in the figures for the herd. Details of the production of each animal are as follows: —
