TIRAU BRANCH. The February meeting of the Tirau branch of the Women’s Division, presided over by Mrs. Bishop, was specially well attended and successful. All the members were in favour of sending £3 to headquarters for the community chest. In spite of hard times Tirau has always managed to send the full amount for this purpose. When business in the local branch was concluded, a special meeting was held, visitors being present from Putaruru and the outlying branches. This resulted in the forming of the Waikato East Provincial Council, and officers, representative of each branch, were elected, with Mrs. Voyce, Putaruru, as president. All present were very enthusiastic and full of hope for the future. Afternoon tea, served "by the Tirau ladies, ended the meeting.
MORRINSVILLE BRANCH. The Morrinsville branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its March meeting on Friday, the president, Mrs. F. Jenner, presiding over a very large attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Aitken and J. T. Robinson. Four new members were enrolled. The next meeting of the branch will be the annual meeting. An invitation was received to attend the birthday party of the Te Awamutu branch, and it was decided to send a letter of thanks for the invitation. Stall at Flower Show. Satisfaction was expressed at the announcement that the stall conducted by the branch at the Morrinsville Horticultural Show in February had resulted in a nett profit of £5, which will augment the funds of the branch. The president expressed thanks to Mesdames Doorty, Marra, Cooper and Hogg for their assistance in conducting the stall. A vote of thanks was accorded the Horticultural Society, and it was decided to make a donation of 10s 6d to the society for a special trophy at the next show.
Member Leaving for England. A presentation of a bouquet was made to a member, Mrs- Hebditch, of Tauhei, who is returning to England shortly. In making the presentation the president wished Mrs. Hebditch bon voyage and a quick return to New Zealand. Mrs. Hebditch suitably responded. Exhibition of Treasures. An exhibition of personal treasures and antiques by members was very interesting, for there was a great array of beautiful and quaint heirlooms and works of art. The Tauhei ladies were hostesses for the day. Afternoon tea brought a happy afternoon to a close.
NGARUA BRANCH FORMED. A new branch of the W.D.F.U. was formed at Ngarua, Thames Valley, as the result of a well-attended meeting of ladies on Thursday. Mrs. A. Donovan was elected president, and Mrs. F. R. Marx is secretary and treasurer. The new branch starts off with a membership of 22. Some of the members have previously been members of the Morrinsville or Te Aroha branches, but it is considered that Ngarua should have a branch of its own for the benefit of ladies who cannot travel to the neighbouring towns. The Ngarua branch will meet at 1.30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Mrs. Marx, who has been secretary and treasurer of the Morrinsville branch for several years, has intimated that she will not be available for re-election, as she is taking up similar duties for the new Ngarua branch.
