of the Matamata A. &P. Show.
tiM vhS praise from the judgesT In tne stock classes especially were the entries outstanding, the Jersey classes and hacks and hunters being equal to those seen in any ring in the Dominion. In the opinion of foundation members of the association the show as a whole is now quite on a par with the best of pre-war days. When it is recalled that it was only fifteen months ago that a special meeting of the association was called to consider whether the annual show should be abandoned or not, Saturday’s effort stands as a striking testimony to the faith and optimism not only of the president, Mr. A. S. Thirlwall, and the secretary, Mr. F. Banks, and executive, but also of the numerous exhibitors and all those who worked so well to make the show the great success it was.
The Officials. Wwrfgincipal officials were as folrftron, Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P.; president, Mr. A. S. Thirlwall; vice-presidents, Messrs. K. E. Buchanan and H. Eollett; secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. Banks; executive committee, Messrs. A. A. Potts, C. G. Payze, J. Landells, J. Price, F. C. Bush, M. E. Gould, A. J. Young, H. J. Barford, J. E. Barker, K. Holmes, A. E. Brookes, D. B. Higgins, E. K. Garland, A. McPhail, L. Flower, F. Bichmond, E. H. Bold, F. W. Bowler* G. Mason, H. E. Harding, W. Egan, J. E. Whelan.
Opening Ceremony. Mr. A.. Thirlwall, president of the A. and P. Association, said that it gave him the greatest pleasure to welcome exhibitors and visitors to the 22nd annual Matamata show. He congratulated exhibitors on the high quality of their exhibits and also extended the thanks of the executive to all those who had assisted to make the show a success.
Mr. J. W. Anderson, chairman of the Matamata Comity Council, said it gave him the greatest pleasure to open the show, and he hoped that there would be a record crowd. Nobody deserved more support than the executive committee of an A. and P. Association. They worked hard for 12 months solely for the benefit of their fellow settlers. They were fortunate in having such a fine day, which would enable settlers from the backblocks to meet their friends. hoped they would have a record gathering as a reward for their work and he had much pleasure in officially declaring the show open. An innovation this year was the use of amplifiers to assist in carrying the voices of the official - speakers throughout the huge showground. CHAMPIONSHIPS. Hack.—H. S. Wyatt’s Bomford. Hunter. —T.
