Tirau.
Sunday School Prize-giving. The Tirau Sunday School prizegiving was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Dodson. The programme consisted mainly of games and competitions. Much amusement was derived from a game for the mothers, “ Feeding the Baby.” After afternoon tea the superintendent addressed the gathering, congratulating the children on their steady work during the past year, and impressing on the parents that all teaching in the Sunday school was strictly inter-denominational. He also read apologies for absence from the Rev. J. J. Heard (Presbyterian minister) and Miss R. Brown (infant teacher). The Rev. P. Cleary said he was pleased to meet the Sunday school teachers and the scholars and their parents. He called upon Mrs. Stewart, who founded the Sunday school many years ago, to present the prizes.
Mrs. Stewart told the children the story of two frogs that fell into a bowl of cream, the moral being that perseverance always brings its own reward. Th'e prize-winners were:— Senior Boys.—D. Naismith 1, J. Clark 2. Intermediate Boys.—Derek Withers 1, Colin Emslie 2. Intermediate Girls.—Alison Gray and Barbara Harvey 1, Fay Corcoran 2. Infants.
