MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

PUTARURU SITTING. A sitting of the Putaruru Magistrate’s Court was held before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., on Friday. Breaches of By-laws. The traffic inspector of the Matamata County Council, Mr. E. W. Jordan, proceeded against several motorists for breaches of the motor and highways regulations. Harold David Jones and Clifford Redmond Lloyd were fined 10s and 20s respectively for driving motor lorries without having drivers’ licenses. Arthur Edward Lipsham was fined £2 for exceeding the speed limit allowed under the Matamata-Rotorua highways regulations. The inspector said the by-laws under which the charge was laid had been instituted to regulate speeds, and so reduce maintenance costs on the roads. He had checked Lipsham at 44 miles per hour on the Tapapa road. Offences by Cyclist.

Three charges were laid by the police against Leo John Critchley, of riding a motor cycle to the danger of the public; riding without having an efficient silencer fixed to his machine; and riding without lights. Constable Cotter said he saw accused riding through Princes street. He was making considerable noise with his motor cycle and appeared to be standing up on the seat. Witness was quite satisfied that the accused was riding to the danger of the public. When accosted Critchley said he had full control of his machine.
