“I’ll Shave.”
Can any of your lady readers tell me why a man, before he shaves himself, always tells somebody else that he is “ going to have a shave,” or that he thinks he will have a shave ? This question is asked by a correspondent in an exchange. As a man I have asked many other men 1 the reason for these strange words. Why cannot a man shave himself without telling others in a half- j apologetic tone what he is going to do ? Does he think someone will try to stop him ? I confess I am no better than others, and I find myself unconsciously telling some member of my household that I am going to 1 shave. A parallel in the feminine world i would be—a woman after a little I talk, saying, “ Oh, well; I’ll go and I pencil my eyebrows ”; or “ I’ll now powder my nose.” What would men think of such absurd statements ? And yet I think it is just as absurd for a man to be constantly proclaiming the fact that he is going to shave.
