“OASIS IN DESERT.”

TOKOROA PASTURES. Mr. H. Cleland, who for some years was stationed at Matamata as stock inspector for the district, and who now holds a similar position at Wanganui, has been holiday-making in Matamata during the past few days. In conversation with a Putaruru Press reporter Mr. Cleland stated that he had motored through from Wanganui, via Tokoroa, and that of all the hundreds of miles of countryside he had passed through on the trip the “ Tokoroa district was the only green spot on the map.” In contrast to the parched, brown and bare state of other settled areas, Tokoroa showed up a vivid green, and Mr. Cleland was amazed at the wealth of feed which was available on Tokoroa farms. No other district he kiew of could compare with this area, and its amazing verdure had to be seen to be believed.
