VALEDICTORY.

MR. AND MRS. C. HITCHCOCK. Leaving- last Saturday to take up his new appointment in Rotorua, Mr. Con. Hitchcock, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Matamata, only helped to take up the continual round of changes always going on in Bank and Government positions. Why this should be is a puzzle, for no sooner does a man become wellknown to the community and become interested in different social, sporting r.rid business institutions than he is Lifted, and his fellow* men are left

without the services of one who has anly just learn the running of things. Apart from being a distinct loss in his business capacity, Mr. Hitchcock with Mrs. Hitchcock, will also be

greatly missed in social and sporting spheres, and their places in Matamata will be hard to fill. To show their appreciation of Mr. and Mrs. Hitchcock’s interest in golfing matters the members of the Rocky Downs Club held an evening in Mr. and Mrs. Hitchcock’s honour last Thursday evening. The evening was spent in dancing, cards and other games, and among the forms of entertainment a flag bridge tournament was held, the winners being Mrs. Johnston, Mrs. Underwood and Mr. Tate. Mrs. Hitchcock was presented with a “ brassie ” and Mr. Hitchcock with a pipe by the members.

On Friday evening Mr. Hitchcock was presented with a set of Loewe pipes by Mr. Walker, on behalf of the members of the Matamata Club, at an evening held in the club as a farewell function to Mr. Hitchcock.
