OKAUIA.
HOUSE GUTTED BY FIRE. Considerable excitement was caused at the Maori settlement, Okauia, on Monday night, about 9 o’clock, when it was found that Mr. J. Aoake’s residence was in flames. A crowd soon gathered, but as there was an absence of a water supply handy nothing could be done. The house was soon gutted, and a considerable supply of stores were lost. Friends, however, came to the rescue and gave Mr. Aoake and family residence for the time being. FOOTBALL. Football has commenced in eamert once more, and a good number of enthusiasts gathered at the Opal Snrings on Monday night for a practice and a “ korero ” on matters in general. PERSONAL. Mrs. F. Underwood, of Wairere House, is spending a few days in Hamilton. Miss V. White is spending a week’s vacation in Auckland, and is staying at King’s Court Hotel. Mr. Ha He Douglas is visiting relatives at Okauia.
