Most faithful friend amongst material things, The time has come, old bus, to make a change; For though thou glidest still as if on wings, Thy “ pinions ” can be heard o’er greater range! with a silent tear. On dusty roads, or fraught with greasy skids, Never again thy certain course I’ll steer, What’s left?—But fifteen crumpled, paper quids! High though thy top gear ratio—full three to one, No moderate hill can stay thy gladsome pace; When on thy “ second ” thou art shamed by none; On “ first ” thou look’st the angels In j the face! Never a tear thy radiator shows, Thy steering, firm as on thy natal day;
Smooth is thy pistons’ travel, ’neath the gaseous blow, That sends thee rolling on thy joyous way. But still, old dear, thou know’st full well that oil And gas—most odorqus—illuminate thy lamps; No starter wakes thy song save mine own manual toil Which e’en on crackling moms my forehead damps.
