TOWN LEVELS

SURVEYOR APPOINTED. * Local Firm Engaged. A somewhat-lengthy discussion in committee resulted from the replies received by the Putaruru Town Board from firms of surveyors in connection with the taking of the necessary levels within certain portions of the town boundary. The estimates received from various firms in Auckland, Hamilton, Kawhia and Putaruru ranged from £99 10s to £29 10s. The discussion chiefly concerned the manner in which the work would be carried out, and the length of time to be taken on the job, one firm mentioning three months, while another stated two weeks for the engineering plans and three weeks for the map. Eventually, on the motion of Messrs. Griffiths and Tomalin, it was unanimously decided to engage Mr. I?. F. Halse, of Putaruru, at a fee of £45, the work to be completed within 30 days, provided certain minor conditions were agreed to.
