PUTARURU TOWN BOARD.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Putaruru Town Board was held on Monday night, wlien the following were present : Messrs. G. G. Griffiths (chairman), H. W. Lindsay, W. Yandle; A. E. Barr Brown, C. C. Neal, K. McDermott, J. C. Tomalin, and the clerk (Mr A. H. Dukeson). SECOND HAND LICENSE. The matter of attending to the provisions of the Second-hand Dealers Act was left in the clerk’s hands to report re local dealers at the next meeting of the board. CABLE WORK. The District Telegraph Engineer wrote thanking the board for its offer of co-operation, and expressing regret that the board was not advised of the present work. A plan showing the depths and locations of cables now being laid would be forwarded when the work was completed.—Received. BUILDING PERMIT. An application by Mr. Chas. C. Porter for a permit to erect a brick shop in Princes street was deferred, as no plan accompanied the application. The chairman advised that the builder had been warned he was contravening the by-laws, and that operations had apparently been suspended. PRINCES POND. The Plealth Inspector wrote drawing the attention of the board to the pond in Princes street, and pointing out as it was a decided menace to the health of the town that steps should be taken to have it filled. The chairman: It would be too costly to do the work without a loan, and the committee have reported on the work in the loan proposals. It was decided to reply in these terms. TOWN HALL. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs. Neal and Barr Brown, to purchase a fire extinguisher for use in the town hall. SLAUGHTERING LICENSE. On the motion of Messrs. McDermott and Tomalin, a slaughterhouse license was granted to Mr. A. T. Smith. Mr. Barr Brown: Can we do anything in regard to the location being within the town boundary? The chairman: Not till the town has a population of 4000, though I believe the Health Department apply pressure when the 3000 mark is reached. TOWN HALL TRANSFER. ; The solicitors to the board advised that the documents in regard to the transfer of the town hall to the hoard (Continued at Foot of Next Column)
were now complete, and that they were being stamped and registered. DOG COLLECTOR. On the motion of Messrs. Neal and Tomalin, Mr. H. Mitten was appointed dog-tax collector at a fee of Is per collar. DRIVERS’ LICENSES. The chairman reported that licenses of all kinds could now be obtained from the town clerk. An offer from Mr. J. M. Spear to act as examiner for drivers’ licenses for cars was accepted with thanks. BEARING THE BURDEN. The board affirmed the principle that owners of Glen Scotia and Glen Shea sub-divisions should contribute towards the cost of bringing the roads in these areas up to standard before rate money was spent on the blocks. The same principle to be applied to the Government sub-division around Kensington street.
