THE NEW ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS.

The fashion for flowers at the nock, flowers at the waist, flowers wherever flowers can be placed has led to variety not only of colour and kind but also of material. While silk and velvet flowers are worn in the evening, something lc’ss realistic is demanded for the daytime and to wear with coats and furs. The felt flower has had a long innings. So also has the flower made of leather. At the moment white cnmeliats are still made of kid or suede to wear in the buttonholes of the town suit. Feather flowers have certain advantages of smartness and colour, and ■ these also may be seen with tlic curious crisp stiffness which characterises them. A newer material—at least, for use or + - side sea-bathing—is india-rubber. Of this are madp a number of verv delicate small flo\yers. The rubber is thin and so cleverly coloured that it takes on a petal-like consistency, and a bunch of violets of rubber would be absolutely realistic• did it not quiver a shade too much. The latest flowers approximate fine enamel. Narcissus and other pale flowers with open faces are covered with a material which stiffens their silk foundation and gives them a b'-’fht enamelled surface. Two or throe of these are combined with a leaf which is similarly treated. As a rule they are* made in a small size, and their stiffness and brilliance almost' makes of them a*little jewel with which the buttonhole can be decorated.
