LUCERNE SEED.
IMPORTED v. NEW ZEALAND GROWN.
The long campaign of the Marlborough Farmers’ Union in the direction of having imported lucerne seed stained, so that it cannot possibly be mistaken for the New Zea-land-grown article, is at last nearing finality. Last week Mr. R. Wanden, secretary of the Union, received a letter from the Dominion Executive, to whom the matter had been referred, stating that they were- in receipt of a letter from the Minister for Agriculture, in which he stated that legislation would be necessary to give effect to the Union’s recommendation and he was not sure that it could be attended to during the coming session of Parliament. The Minister also stated that the Department was taking up the question of including white clover seed in the scheme. The Minister added that the matter was receiving serious attention.
