A shrewd thrust at talkative public and semi-public body members was made by Cr. C. Nees at the last meeting of the Marlborough County Council. A letter was read from Professor C. Coleridge Farr, of Canterbury College, seeking information regarding natural gas emissions in the district with a view to analysis for helium content. “ Does any councillor know where natural gas may be found in 4 * the county?” asked the chairman (Mr. A. M. W. Adams). “ I move that the letter be handed to the reporters of the Marlborough Express for said Cr. Nees, with seriousness. “ I consider they are in a better position than anyone else to tell the professor where the district’s natural gas comes from. I think they would tell the writer that it is emitted mainly at local body meetings.” (Laughter.) “ Don’t anybody strike a match ! ” ejaculated Cr. F. E. Fair weather. At the instance of the chairman it was I agreed to supply the college with all the information that could be gathered on the subject.
