The Ayrshires were of a quality that surprised even those familiar with the breed locally, and Mr. T. 'Thompson (Waiuku) was greatly impressed. It was considered a very good augury for future years, for the Ayrshires, it was thought, were next, to the Jerseys the outstanding attraction among the cattle. The Shorthorns and Holsteins were not greatly in evidence, the wave of popularity or. fashion for the former breed not having come their way j yet. HOME INDUSTRIES. "Referring to the home industries section, Mr. Bateson (Hamilton) said that under the conditions existing some of the flowers reflected credit on the growers, but intending entrants had little chance, as the entries closed ten days before the show, whereas two days before was near enough. Mr. Ross (Waihou) said the same remarks applied to the fruit and, farm produce. It was pointed out to these gentlemen that the printing of the catalogue necessitated closing at the date mentioned, and that probably the remedy was to run an industrial show apart from and on a different date from the A. and P. Show, though under the association’s auspices. The home industries -was the only section in the show in which there was a falling off in entries, and this ( is regrettable, as it is, by reason of its attraction to the ladies, one of Mhe best features to draw the gate. 1
