PUTARURU TOWN BOARD.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Putaruru Town Board was held on Monday, when the following commissioners were present : Messrs. G. G. Griffiths (chairman), H. W. Lindsay, VV. Yandle, C. C. Neal, K. McDermott, J. C. Tomalin, A. E. Barr Brown. The meeting w-as a late one which lasted till shortly after midnight. The bulk of the time was spent in committee discussing by-laws, standing orders, tenders and other subjects. NOXIOUS WEEDS. A letter was received from the I Noxious Weeds Inspector stating that ! steps were being taken to secure the . clearance of noxious weeds, and ! thanking the board for its assistance, j Mr. Neal pointed out that there was a flaw in the Act in that proceedings could not be taken until such weeds bloomed. A Member : 1 was not aware of that. It seems to be a case for a remit to the association. It was decided to note the fact for future reference, and the letter was received. TAXI LICENSES. The chairman reported that complaints had been made to him in regard to cars plying for hire without a license to do so. After some discussion it was decided to take certain steps in the matter to prevent such occurrences in the future. GLEN SCOTIA ROAD.
A letter was received from Mr. Bruce Scott offering- to contribute towards the cost of draining and grading- Glen Scotia road, and asking for particulars. On the motion of Messrs. McDermott and Lindsay it was decided to reply thanking Mr. Scott and fixing the amount at £25. LEASE PASSED. Mr. W. C. Hewitt wrote enclosing copies of a lease from Mr. J. C. Tomalin to W. P. Benton for the board’s approval. On the motion of Messrs. Lindsay and Neal tho- clerk was authorised to append the seal of the board to the same. TOWN HALL. The treasurer reported that it
would facilitate matters if the receipt • book was kept by the caretaker, as - many more cash rentals would thus * be received from the hall. ' On the motion of Messrs. Neal and - Y’andle this was agreed to, and the clerk was instructed to enter up bookings and payments once a week. t Mr. Barr Brown asked if it was the i intention of the board to advertise - for a caretaker. 1 The chairman replied that the . board could not very well do that. 2 The present caretaker was giving ‘ every satisfaction, and it would be " tantamount to dismissing him. Mr. Barr Brown : I have been approached by several in regard to the | matter and I told them I would raen- . tion it. 2 SANITATION DUMP. - The chairman reported that Dr. ■ Mecredy had inspected and approved the sanitary dump wheii he and the 1 vice-chairman were present. 3 The tender of Mr. Schisker at Is 2 per pan was then accepted by the board and his agreement approved on the motion oT Messrs. Barr Brown s and Yandle. ! STANDING ORDERS, t A draft of proposed standing or- ® ders was submitted by the chairman and approved on the motion of - Messrs. Neal and Tomaiin. TOWN WORKS. e On the motion of Messrs. Barr li Brown and Neal it was decided to c communicate with the engineer with ® a view to work being done on the back Lichfield road and Glen Scotia road before winter. I LIGHTING THE TOWN, i- On the motion of Messrs. Lindsay h and Yandle it was decided to communicate with the Thames Valley r ' Electric Power Board with a view to !- securing more lights for the town bei- fore winter. £ LOAN POLICY, k On the motion of Messrs. Barr e Brown and Lindsay a committee consisting of the chairman and Messrs, q Tomalin, Neal and Yandle was set r, r o frame a loan policy for submission to the board. It was further decided that the committee meet at 9.30 a.m. on Thursday.
