Wanganui is building up a doubtful reputation for petty thieving (states the Chronicle). A tally made at the conclusion of an athletic meeting at Cook’s Gardens disclosed the fact that in the aggregate £lO was removed from the pockets of various competitors who had left their clothing in the pavilion. One athlete, who for some reason or other had stamps to the value of £5 in his clothes, was relieved of the lot during his 15 minutes* absence on the running track.
