ATHLETIC SOCIETY.

A committee meeting of the Athletic Society was held on Monday night, when there was present—Messrs J. Gregory (chairman), Toss will I sac.), Birnie, Tuckey, H. Sedcole, G. Avery, Briggs, and Black. A letter was read from A. Fraucis, requesting that his disqualification be removed.—Members of the committee considered that Francis was entitled to suffer for his conduct in sending in a false entry at last sports, and refused to reinstate him. The programme for the forthcoming sports was then gone into, and it was eventually decided to adopt that of last year without alteration. The question of doing away with the horse leap was discussed, several members expressing thomselves strongly against it, owing to the liability of accident; but others considered it would be unwise to strike it out this year, as even now local horses were being got in hand for the event. A vote was taken on the matter, with the result that the event was allowed to form a portion of the programme at next sports. Possibly it will not be in the programme after this.—The Secretary was instructed to get the programmes printed and circulated far and wide. The remuneration for an assistant secretary was fixed at £5, the appointment being left to the Secretary.
