Athletic Society.

A special meeting of the committee of the above Society was held at Stewart's Hotel on Tuesday evening. i’resent— Messrs E. Baucke (chairman), G. Avery, Briggs, 11. Sodcole, Beaufort, Simpson, Tuckey, Black, uud Tosswill (lion, see.) The meeting was convened to consider the following notices of motion by Mr 11. Sedcole : —l. That in order that the question may be further discussed, the resolution passed on the 4lh instant with reference to eugagmg a hand, be rescinded. 2. That tils resolution passed on the 4th instant relating to the horse jump be rescinded. Both notices were moved, seconded, and, after slight discussion, carried. An ordinary committee meeting was then held. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs C. Avery and Souness. Mr Beese having been absent from two consecutive meetings without sending an excuse. his sent wes declared forfeited, and Mr Tuckey was elected to till the vacancy. BAND. The secretary of Hie I'ahiatua Band wrote, stating that at a meeting held thut evening it had been decided to olTer to play on the sports day free. M oved by Mr Black, seconded by Mr Briggs, and carried, That the offer be accepted, and that the question of reiuune ration be left over until after the sports, when tho committee will fully consider the whole matter, with a view to substantially donating the band fund. CHILDREN. On the motion of Mr Simpson, seconded by Mr Avery, it was decided that, this being Jubilee Year, ail children under 12 be admitted to the sports ground free. UOBSK JUMP. Moved by Mr Tosswill, seconded by Mr Briggs, and carried. That any competitor not being properly attired will be excluded from taking pari in the sports. SPECIAL PHIZES. Messrs Neale and Close, of Napier, having presented tho committee with a field glass and cabinet as special prizes, it was decided to award them as follows : Field glass to the competitor winning tho most points during tiie day—points to count i), 2, and 1; cabinet to the bestdressed couipetitqr. PROCESSION. Moved by Mr Black, seconded by Mr Beaufort, and carried. That a procession take place on Anniversary Bay, starting at the Post Office at 10 a.in. and marching to the sports ground; the procession to comprise the general public willing to take part. Foresters, and children attending the public unit Sunday schools; the Pahiatuu Band to head the procession. Messrs Birnie, Baucke, and Black were appointed to make all necessary arrangements.

The committee then adjourned until tomorrow evening.
