All round beef is quoted at 2ls to 22s lid. Tile sheep market was glutted and a large number wi re unsold. Prices rule from Os to 10s ; lambs also were a glut at 4s 9d to os. The Wallabi lost 15 bullocks on her trip through the rough weather. Christchurch, February 8.
The Addington Sale yards to day were lightly supplied in most departments, and everything but beef met with good sale.
Fat Cattle.—A full supply came forward. ami as has been tile ease lately, the demand was not sufficient to effect a clearance. Several lines wi re of \ cry good quality, but tile sale was the worst of the season, and prices were very weak, a heavy drop only being avoided by extensive withdrawals. Very few sold so high as llis, and those only choice light weights. Tin* general run of prices for secondary to good beef was 14s to 15s per 100 lbs. Steers sold up to £ti 2s (id, heifers to £5. Very few store cattle were yarded. A goixl line of 8-year-old steers were sold at £4 Is Od a head, hut beyond these the supply consisted of odd lots. Values nil round were unchanged from last week. Dairy cows were also poorly represented, and brought recent rotes, calves remaining at nominal prices. Sheep.—The tone of the market was good, and the declino in good sheep suffered last week was recovered, while owes made an important improvement of Oil a head. Ship|>ers competed actively for suitable crossbreds and whetliers cleared off. Prime crossbred wethers brought 8s to Us 3d ; merino wethers of fair quality sold cheaply at Is to 5s each ; prime crossbred wethers were worth lpl to ljd per lb.; secondary, IJd per lb. l-'at lambs were also wanted for export, and the entry being small improved prices were obtained. The best pens brougli 4>s to 7s 9d; lighter, from 4s 4d to 5s 0d ; store sheep improved in value slightly. l’igs wore firm. Dunedin, February 8. Fat Cattle.—The market at Burnside to-day was glutted, .'UK) head being yarded representing all qualities. This number was largely in exeoss of the requirements, and the consequence was ail exceedingly dull sale. The bidding lacked spirit, the prices realised being 20s to 25s per head below last week’s. Best bnlloeks brought £0 10s to £7 17s Od. One or two extra prime pens a shade more; medium to good, £3 12s Od to £0 ; and cows in proportion. Fat Sheep. —2035 were penned, of which nliout 450 were merino, the balance crossbred ewes and wethers. For the former prices were a shade higher, but the latter showed no improvement on the prices realised last week. There was little or no demand for export, but owing to this number being below tho average the trade operated with a little more spirit. Best crossbred wethers brought 8s to 9s (one or two prime |h-iis 9s lid I ; ordinary, lis 4d to 7s 9.1; best crossbred ewes, 7s 9d to 8s 94 (a few pens 9s(; ordinary, 5s 3d to 7s 0d ; merino wethers, 3s 3d to 0s 3d.
Store Cattle.*—The demand for these is rather weak and not likely to improve before supplies are required for fattening on turnips, and these in many localities do not nt present give much promise of Iteasy croi). This, considered with the low price realised for fat stock, gives but little encouragement in the meantime to operate. Store Sheep.—There is a considerable amount of inquiry, and full lists are now presented, but the business done is unimportant, the demand is mostly for young sheep of both sexes, crossbred nnd merino chiefly. The former buyers, however, continue reticent, considering prices ask (si by holders rather high when compared with those now obtaining for fat sheep at tho weekly market. Auckland, February Id. Mr Biieklsud rejHirts : —At Uemnnraon Thursday dairy and store cattle were at late values. Fat cattle wen- in full numbers, but were lower in price—from Is to 2* the _ 1001 b —than last week. Khoep maintained their values, and lambs were at better worth, having advanced Is. Culves sold briskly.
