ESCAPE OF GERMAN PRISONERS.

WELLINGTON, July 31,

Some time during the night four interned Germans escaped from Somes Island on a rudely constructed raft. It is evident they intended going to the city side of the harbour, but the raft drifted towards Petone and swamped. One man died from exposure, but the others landed. They were arrested by civil police and are now in a weak condition.
