A SHOOTING SENSATION.

THREE PERSONS SHOT. ONE DEATH. OAMARU, April 14. There was' a sensational shooting affair at 8 o’clock this evening at Gemmell’s Crossing, on the Kakanui river, about ten miles from Oamaru, and a favoured spot for Ashing camps. A young married farmer named George Burke and his two sisters were shot, without provocation. Details of the tragedy are meagre. Burke died before medical aid could bo obtained. The young women, who are in a serious condition, are expected to reach the Hospital after midnight. It is reported that the assailant was a returned soldier belonging to Oamaru, and that he used an automatic revolver.

The police sergeant and constables wore ear ly on the scene, but have not yet returned to town.
