Reports from front aro more favourable, and the British Staff aro hopeful that our situation may be re-establish-ed. There is a noticeable lull in the offensive.
Three long range guns have been located.
British reinforcements aro proceeding rapidly towards the front. The present offensive employs threclifths of the Germans’ strength. The German fleet is likely to appear in the North Sea. French reserves have arrived and will be placed at the disposal of the British General command. The tenacious British resistance has broken the enemy’s scheme. Many German attacks have been defeated.
The Man Power Bill has passed with the conscription clause adopted. The War Loan closed yesterday, but an extension of time is hinted at. Sir Joseph Ward is compelled to say even how that it is nothing like fully subscribed. Parliament is still sitting.
The Second Division ballot is to be taken to-day, ten thousand men being called up. The War Finance Bill passed in Parliament with various important amendments.

The Minister of Customs stated in the House yesterday that he had nothing tc do with the space allotted to liquor in shipments from Great Britain. That rested solely with the Imperial Government.
