THE WAIRAU BRIDGE.
At the monthly meeting of the Blenheim Borough Council held last Thursday, copies were received of the reports in which the inspectors to the Lower Wairau River Board and the \v airau Road Board embodied their recommendations as to the works required for the protection of the northern approach of the Wairau bridge. The Town Clerk reported that the secretary of the Pelorus Road Board had telephoned him that that Board had decided not to convene a conference of contributing local bodies as had been suggested by the Omaka Road - Board and requested by the Borough Council. , , _ Councillor Parker said that tho Council was not acquainted with the Pelorus Road Board's decision until the last moment, and this delay was not at all fair. He thought that the recommendations of the River Board’s inspector contained a much better idea than that counselled by the Public Works Department. It was all the more acceptable as its estimated cost (£200) was one-tenth of what the Department’s scheme would cost. He very much regretted that the Pelorus Board would not even go the length of calling a conference. . After some discussion it was, on tne motion of Councillor Parker,, resolved that, the Pelorus Board naving refused to convene a conference to consider the necessity, pointed out by the Public Works Department, of attending to the protection of the bridge, and to con--sider the inspectors’ reports, the Council invite the other contributing authorities to attend a conference.—Express. i
