MR F. M. B. FISHER.

The announcement that Mr.F. M. B. Fisher, the bright but erratic politician who declared that “consistency was the refuge of fools,” is shortly to re* turn to New Zealand to have another tilt to win the love of his old flame, Wellington Central, comes as it wore, like a voice from the grave, says ‘John Bull's Register.’ It is not strictly accurate to say that since his defeat for Wellington Central and his departure abroad, Mr Fisher has been silent. On the contrary, this young man has done a lot of useful work, though its nature has not been generally confided to the people whose votes he will solicit when the time comes. Mr Fisher since he .left these shores has done a lot of travelling. He has written a great deal, spoken more, and if we are not mistaken, has engaged in work of semimilitary character, though, as becoming such a young man, a man who was said to have had a ,future, he has kept himself immersed dtt the muddy pools of politics- The announcement that, it is his intention to return and contest the seat now represented by Mr Robert Fletcher, might be something in the shape of a “feeler/* and it is not a wise thing to assert that Wellington Central will welcome Mr F. M. B. Fisher with open arms. Still Mr Fisher has proved himself a political chame-, Icon, and if he is inconsistent in a political sense, it means that he is endeavouring to live up to his reputation, which a wise once said is a very difficult thing to do. However, it ought to be placed on record that master mariners of the New Zealand coastal service speak highly of Mr Fisher as a Minister of Marine, and genuine were the regrets when that young hopeful went out in 1914.
