GERMAN INVASION.
FIFTY-MILE ADVANCE.
PETROGRAD, Feb. 24.
The enemy have advanced fifty
miles on the whole _ front. Aeroplanes are distributing leaflets advising the inhabitants to be calm, > the Germans Avill bring the restoration of order and food. The advance is not resisted anywhere. Forty thousand troops seized 27 trains and fled back to Moscoav. The Germans are not taking prisoners, merely disarming the Russians.
The Bolsheviki are at their wits’ end. The majority of the civilians are praying that the Germans Avill reach the city before the anarchists kick over the traces.
The British Consulate is crowded, and all, especially the Avomen and children, Avant to leave immediately. The disorganisation of the navy is irremediable. The majority of the creAvs oppose active defence, and some demand immediate discharge. The situation at Reval is tragic. The authorities' desire to remove the Avarships to Kronstadt, but the ice prevents it. There is a similar position at Helsingfors. The authorities are considering whether they ought to destroy the Avarships if it is impossible to intern them in neutral territory.
The Council of Commissaries has ordered the evacuation of Finland.
