LONDON, June 7. A conference of the Sailors’ and hire men’s Union has ordered lie strict* eat watch on all ports to prevent the departure of delegates to Stockholm. BRITISH RAID ON BRUGES. MANY TONS OF BOMBS DROPPED. f LONDON, June 7. We successfully bombed shipping at Bruges on Monday night. We observed a big explosion and many smaller ones. We again raided Bruges at daybreak. Many tons of bombs were dropped. THE FIRST DIVISION. BETWEEN 30,000 AND 31,000 MEN LEFT. WELLINGTON, June 7. Nearly 44,000 members of the First Division have now been drawn in the ballot. The division has been depleted at the same time by voluntary enlistment, and contains not more than between 30,000 and 31.000 men. At the present time all the remaining men in the First Division should understand that their turn is bound to come within the next four months, since the division will be exhausted at the present rate of drawing in that period. Voluntary recruits are now being taken for the 33rd Reinforcements, due to be mobilised in September. NATIONAL ECONOMY. LUXURIES CAN BE DISPENSED WITH. CHRISTCHURCH, June 6. Mr J. A. Frostick, National Efficiency Commissioner for Canterbury, states that the Efficiency Board has prepared a list of articles classed as luxuries which can be dispensed with. Their total annual value exceeds three-quar-ters of a million sterling. It is considered that a line should be drawn between necessity and extravagance. Such a course.would cause extra work in the Customs Department, but this would be infinitesimal compared with the results.
